Matchups Set for Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off

PRINCETON, N.J. - The schedule is set for the 2022 Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off (@HolidayFaceOff). 
 
The second annual Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off will open on Wednesday, December 28 when No. 10 Massachusetts takes on No. 17 Clarkson, followed by Wisconsin squaring off against Lake Superior State in the semifinals at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. 
 
The semifinal winners will meet for the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off title on Thursday, December 29, preceded by the consolation match.

Last year, Wisconsin captured the inaugural Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off with an overtime win versus Yale and a shootout victory over then-No. 16 Providence. 

THE FIELD 
 
Wisconsin(Head Coach: Tony Granato, Big Ten Conference) 
In his seventh season as head coach of his alma mater, 2020 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Tony Granato owns a pair of Big Ten Coach of the Year honors and the 2021 Big Ten title…Wisconsin won the inaugural Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off with an overtime win versus Yale and a shootout victory over then-No. 16 Providence at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee in December…first-round Columbus Blue Jackets’ pick and sophomore defenseman Corson Ceulemans, the Most Outstanding Defenseman at the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off, was named the Hockey Commissioners Association National Rookie of the Month for December and tied for the team lead with 22 points (7-15)…junior Mathieu De St. Phalle paced UW with 10 goals and tied Ceulemans in scoring…the Badgers ranked second  in the nation in total attendance (175,241) and in average attendance (9,736). 
 
No. 10 Massachusetts (Head Coach: Greg Carvel, Hockey East) 
The 2021 National Champions ended the 2021-22 season ranked No. 10 with a 22-13-2 record and won the Hockey East tournament championship after replacing 10 players from the title team…head coach Greg Carvel, who guided UMass to its first National Championship in 2021, will enter his seventh season in Amherst, earned National Coach of the Year honors from USCHO and College Hockey News in 2021-22…sophomore defenseman Scott Morrow, a 2021 NHL second round pick by the Carolina Hurricanes, ranked among the nation’s freshmen leaders in goals (13) and points (33)…classmate Ryan Ufko, a 2021 fourth round selection of the Nashville Predators, ranked among the leading freshmen D-men with 26 assists a year ago…Morrow and Ufko ranked second and third, respectively, among UMass scorers. 

No. 17 Clarkson (Head Coach: Casey Jones, ECAC Hockey) 
The Golden Knights posted a 21-10-6 record in ending the season ranked 17th nationally...included among those wins are victories over No. 14 Michigan Tech, Cornell, Wisconsin, and a tie at No. 7 Quinnipiac….the Knights had five players with 20+ points on the season, paced by senior Mathieu Gosselin (11-22-33) and junior Alex Campbell (16-17-33)….in goal, junior Ethan Haider started 30 games and played to a 2.39 goals against average while posting 13 wins, including three shutouts…Clarkson multiple NHL draft picks on its roster, including Campbell and Haider who were both taken by Nashville in the 2019 NHL Draft. 
 
Lake Superior State (Head Coach: Damon Whitten, Central Collegiate Hockey Association) 
Head Coach Damon Whitten is in his ninth season behind the bench and has led the Lakers to playoff appearances in all but one season…Whitten led Lake Superior to 26 wins during the calendar year of 2021, which was tied for third-most in the country (Minnesota State, 37; North Dakota, 28)…with 32power play goals in 2021-22, the Lakers ranked16nationally and scored at a 22.5% clip (also 16th)…LSSU had six players with 19or more points, including three skaters with 22 or more points...senior captain Louis Boudon led the team with a career-high 44 points in 36 games, including a career-best 15 goals…junior defenseman Jacob Bengtsson totaled 27 points, which included a team-leading 24 assists.
